The Cessna Citation series are American turbofan-powered light corporate jets built by the Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, USA. The company is a subsidiary of the U.S. conglomerate Textron.
The Citation is a low-wing cantilever monoplane with retractable tricycle landing gear, a pressurized cabin, and is powered by two turbofan engines that are pylon mounted on the rear fuselage.
The first model, called simply Citation (Model 500), received its FAA certification in September in 1971. 5 years later, several improvements were done to the aircraft, such as longer span wings, higher maximum gross weight, and thrust reversers were added. With these improvements, came the name Citation I.
The Citation I is the basis for the early Cessna Citation family. More than 6,750 Citations have been delivered so far, forming the largest business jet fleet worldwide. The first Citation was put into service in 1972, and more than 31 million flight hours have been logged since.
